Marble Bathroom Remodel in Northfield
This primary bathroom in a Northfield Colonial home features a full-height marble-look stone accent wall flanking the vanity, a terrazzo-look floor, and wood panel elements integrated with the tile work. The design uses three tile materials in the same space, which requires careful attention to transitions and height alignment between each material change.
The marble accent wall uses book-matched large-format tiles — tiles cut from the same batch and placed in mirror image to create a continuous vein pattern across the seam. Achieving this requires sorting tiles by lot number and planning the layout before any adhesive is mixed. The terrazzo floor tiles used an epoxy thinset to prevent any staining of the light-colored surface through the grout joints during installation. Northfield's older Colonial homes typically have wood-framed floors, and this bathroom required a layer of cement backer board over the existing subfloor to meet deflection requirements for the large terrazzo tiles.
